Tendayi Darikwa has expressed his pride after captaining Lincoln City to promotion into the EFL Championship.
Lincoln secured their place in the second tier following a 2-1 victory over Reading on Monday, sealing a historic return after 65 years away.
Darikwa, who previously led Wigan Athletic to the League One title in the 2021/22 season, admitted this latest achievement holds a unique place in his career.
Speaking to Lincoln City media, the Zimbabwean defender said:
“I’m proud to lead the team out every time I wear the armband, but I just want to play my part.
“I’ll do whatever I can for the team, to be the first Lincoln City team to win promotion to the second tier for 65 years is a great sense of pride for myself and to lead this group makes it even more memorable.
“I’ve experienced promotions before, but this one feels different. To play my part in this club’s special rise is incredible.”
