Reading coach Leam Richardson has thrown his support behind Andy Rinomhota, suggesting the door remains open for the midfielder to re-establish himself before the end of the season.
Rinomhota has endured a difficult campaign marked by injuries and limited game time.
The situation has sparked speculation over his long-term future at the club, but Richardson insists the Zimbabwe international remains an important part of the squad.
“He’s been working hard, been training hard,” said Richardson, as cited by the Reading Chronicle.
“Like I said, part of the squad coming in. Andy will be the first to say he didn’t have a pre-season for whatever reason, it’s between him and his agent, then he obviously came in in November injured with a few personal issues, injured again.
“He’s struggled to get into this turn of the year, but he’s been training really hard, been massively part of the squad.
“Listen, I know Andy, you know Andy, attitude-wise and everything else, absolutely flawless as a person, flawless.
“He’s down to get on the pitch, I’m down to get him on the pitch.”
