Zimbabwe will have to wait longer to have a match official at the FIFA World Cup after failing to secure representation at the upcoming 2026 edition.
FIFA recently released the list of referees, assistant referees and video match officials selected for the global showpiece, but no Zimbabwean official made the cut, extending the country’s long wait for representation at the highest level.
The last Zimbabwean referee to officiate at the World Cup remains Brighton Mudzamiri, who featured at the 2002 tournament co-hosted by Japan and South Korea. Since then, no official from the country has been selected, despite several attempts over the years.
Zimbabwe has had officials participate in CAF competitions and regional tournaments, but translating that experience into World Cup appointments has proven difficult.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup tournament is set to be hosted across the United States, Canada and Mexico.
The tournament will start on 11 June and ends on 19 July.
