Hunters hold CAPS United as Hardrock edge Agama to close the gap at the top

FC Hunters held CAPS United to a 1-1 draw in a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League Matchday 7 encounter played at Rufaro Stadium on Saturday.

Hunters headed into the match with four points and picked up a vital draw against the leaders, a result that lifted them above the relegation zone into 14th place.

The newcomers were the first to strike, taking the lead through Tadiwa Huni in the 39th minute after a disciplined first-half display.

CAPS United, however, responded late on and secured the equaliser just five minutes before full-time, with Takunda Benhura finding the back of the net to rescue a point for the Green Machine.

The result ensured CAPS United remain at the top of the table, but their advantage has been trimmed after Hardrock moved level on 16 points, with the two sides now separated only by goal difference.

Hardrock kept the pressure on the leaders with a narrow 1-0 victory over struggling Agama. Washington Navaya scored the decisive goal in the 40th minute, condemning Agama to remain in the relegation zone.

Elsewhere, Ngezi Platinum were held to a 1-1 draw by Triangle United in another evenly contested encounter. Chicken Inn produced a solid performance to beat Telone 2-0 and collect maximum points.

At Barbourfields Stadium, defending champions Scottland were frustrated as they played out a goalless draw against Bulawayo Chiefs.
