Mnangagwa Faces Fresh Backlash Over Controversial Constitutional Changes
Tinashe Sambiri– The opposition Freedom Fighters for Change (FFC) has launched a fresh attack on the Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa-led government, accusing it of undermining democratic freedoms through proposed constitutional reforms.
In a statement issued on Friday, the group strongly criticised Constitutional Amendment Bill No. 3 (CAB3), warning that it poses a threat to rights associated with Zimbabwe’s liberation struggle.
The statement read:
“PROTECT OUR FREEDOM — SAY NO TO CAB3
Independence is coming. But what does it mean if we lose the rights our fathers died for?
They bled for this land.
They died so we could be free.
We cannot betray that sacrifice.
CAB3 threatens the freedoms we fought for. We must reject it — not with anger, but with wisdom.
Freedom is not inherited. It is defended.
Join FFC.”
The group argued that independence risks becoming meaningless if constitutional protections are weakened, urging citizens to resist the proposed changes.
It added its campaign slogans: “#WeMoveWithWisdom #SayNoToCAB3 #FreedomFightersForChange #Zimbabwe”
The statement adds to growing political tension surrounding the constitutional amendment process, with opposition voices warning of democratic backsliding while government officials maintain the reforms are aimed at improving governance and administrative efficiency.
