Zim Misses Out on World Cup Match Officials Again
Sports Correspondent – Zimbabwe will once again have no match officials at the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2026, extending a long absence from the global stage in refereeing appointments.
The development means the country will have to wait longer to see one of its referees officiating at football’s biggest tournament, despite efforts over the years to improve representation at elite international competitions.
The last Zimbabwean referee to take charge of a World Cup match was Brighton Mudzamiri, who officiated at the 2002 FIFA World Cup in Japan and South Korea.
Since then, no Zimbabwean match official has been selected for subsequent editions, including the latest 2026 tournament, marking another setback for local refereeing ambitions on the global stage.
