Chicken Inn coach Tonderai Ndiraya has explained why Itai Mabhunu was not substituted despite sustaining an apparent serious injury during their match against Telone on Saturday.
Mabhunu received a crude challenge towards the end of the first half and spent the closing minutes before the break receiving medical attention.
However, in a surprising turn, the defender returned for the second half and went on to finish the game.
Speaking after the match, Ndiraya explained his decision to keep the player on the pitch despite the discomfort.
He said: “Credit to the players for the hard work they showed today, particularly Itai Mabhunu. He got injured in the first half and was under so much pain, but he endured.
“He was very key in defending the crosses that were coming in and in the end we got a clean sheet.”
Chicken Inn secured a 2-0 victory, with goals from Ngnowa Hapmo and Genoius Hute in either half.
