Mnangagwa “Punishes” Jessie Majome For Criticising Constitutional Amendment Bill

Tinashe Sambiri– President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa has come under scrutiny following the sudden reassignment of Fungayi Jessie Majome, a move widely interpreted as a reaction to criticism linked to Constitutional Amendment Bill No. 3.

Last week, the Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission, where Majome served as Chairperson, reportedly made remarks considered critical of the proposed constitutional changes, triggering political debate.

On Friday, government issued a formal notice confirming her reassignment.

“His Excellency the President, Cde. Dr. Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa has re-assigned Ms Fungayi Jessie Majome from the position of Chairperson of the Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission to Commissioner in the Public Service Commission,” the Information Ministry announced.

The decision has sparked discussion, with critics questioning whether the move was connected to her institution’s stance on the constitutional amendment, while others view it as part of ongoing administrative reshuffles within government structures.
