Last week, in a devastating event, 1 student was left dead, and 60 were hospitalized at Maneta Primary School due to suspected food poisoning.
The School Food Poisoning Incident
According to The Herald, on June 26th, as part of the school’s feeding program, five parents prepared a meal of sadza and soya chunks for the students. The food was served to all the students at around 11 am.
Shortly after the meal, the school head was alerted to several Grade 4 and Grade 5 students who were vomiting. These students were promptly taken to Chimbudzi Clinic for medical treatment.
Medical Response and Aftermath
Medical professionals attended to the afflicted students, discharging 43 of them after treatment. However, 14 students needed intravenous fluids before they could be sent home.

Tragically, on June 28th, three students, including an Early Childhood Development (ECD) A pupil, returned to the clinic due to ongoing stomach pain. Sadly, Tanya Chipo, the ECD pupil, succumbed to the illness at approximately 3 pm that day.
