Ministry Education Authorizes August Vacation Lessons for Exam Classes

The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education has authorized schools to conduct vacation lessons during the August holidays.

Vacation Lessons Approved for Examination Classes

In a statement shared on their official X account, the Ministry has given schools the green light to conduct vacation lessons from August 19 to August 30, 2024.

These holiday lessons are specifically for examination classes.

“Therefore, for the year, 2024, AUTHORITY IS GRANTED for schools to conduct vacation school during the August holidays for the examination classes of Grade 7, Form Four (4) and Upper Six (6). The holiday lessons will take place between 19 and 30 August, a period of ten (10) working days only.”

 Fees for Vacation Lessons Revealed

The Ministry also stipulated the fees for these vacation lessons.

The fees have been pegged as follows (USD): Grade 7 – $2, Form 4 – $3, and Form 6 – $5. Additionally, boarders are set to pay an extra $4 per day

“Primary schools will charge USD$2.00 per Learning Area per Grade 7 pupil or its equivalent bank rate in Zimbabwe Gold currency.

Secondary Schools will charge USD$3.00 per Learning Area for Form Four (4) and USD$5.00 per Learning Area for Upper Six (6) or its equivalent bank rate in Zimbabwe Gold currency.

 All borders will pay an extra USD$4.00 per day for their upkeep during the Vacation School period.”

Parents can pay the fees in USD or its equivalent at the bank rate in Zimbabwe Gold currency.

Allocation of Collected Funds: Guidelines for Schools

The Ministry further directed that funds collected by both day schools and boarding schools, excluding boarding expenses, should be utilized as follows:

– 30% for stationery and learning materials,

– 20% for administrative expenses,

– 50% allocated for teacher appreciation

Supervision and Conduct During Vacation School

Furthermore, the Ministry emphasized that the Vacation School must receive full supervision and monitoring from the Inspectorate in collaboration with District Literacy Coordinators and Remedial Tutors.

Additionally, students are required to wear their school uniforms, while teachers are expected to dress appropriately.

“Pupils should turn out in their school uniforms and teachers should be appropriately dressed. The tenets of Safe to Learn principles with reference to the pupil safeguarding Circulars should be upheld and made reference to.”
