The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has accused Rwanda of jamming satellite navigation systems used by civilian flights in the conflict-stricken eastern region of North Kivu. According to the DRC government, the Rwandan army has been disrupting Global Positioning System (GPS) signals through “jamming” and “spoofing,” posing significant risks to commercial and humanitarian flights delivering essential aid to the territory. Rwanda is yet to respond to these allegations. The DRC government leveled this allegation via X, formerly Twitter, stating that a technical investigation confirmed the jamming by the Rwandan army and M23 rebels in direct violation of international law. The announcement revealed that the government filed a complaint with the UN’s International Civil Aviation Organization, seeking appropriate sanctions against Rwanda.
