One dead, 12 injured in Russian gas explosion


One person was killed and 12 others were injured, including six children, in a gas explosion in an apartment building in the Ural city of Nizhny Tagil, about 120 kilometres north of Yekaterinburg, the Russian Emergencies Ministry said on Thursday.

The explosion, reportedly caused by a gas cylinder, led to the collapse of two sections of the building, prompting the evacuation of over 70 residents, the Ministry stated.

Search and rescue operations are under way for potential survivors.
