Convicted murderer and rapist, Luyanda Botha, who is on trial for the attempted rape of a nursing student ten years ago, has denied the charges against him.
Botha, who is currently serving a life sentence for the rape and murder of 19-year-old Uyinene Mrwetyana in 2019, testified in the Wynberg Magistrates Court on Friday.
Botha spoke eloquently as he presented his version of events of the day he is accused of attempting to rape a woman in the shower room at the Athlone Nursing College in June 2014.
He told the court he visited the Athlone Nursing College on the day to confront his girlfriend about having an affair with another female student.
It is the State’s case that Botha punched, choked, and kicked the complainant before loosening his pants in an attempt to rape her.
Botha on Friday denied assaulting or attempting to rape her, saying he tried to calm her down but ran away after she again began screaming loudly.
The matter will be in court on 28 August.
