The African National Congress (ANC) parliamentary caucus study group on Home Affairs has welcomed the lengthy sentence handed down to a Home Affairs official in Durban for fraud.
Judith Salome Zuma has been sentenced to 12 years in prison by the Durban Commercial Crime Court for her involvement in issuing fake passports for cash to foreign nationals who did not qualify.
The Hawks revealed that Zuma exploited vulnerable South Africans by luring them with money, for fingerprints used to get illegal passports for foreign nationals.
This was done at the Durban Home Affairs office during the night, weekends, and public holidays.
Further investigations revealed that Zuma made over R750,0000 from 192 fraudulent passports issued.
She was arrested in December 2021 and pleaded guilty to all charges against her.
In a statement, the ANC Parliamentary Caucus study group on Home Affairs said that the issuing of fraudulent Home Affairs documents was a serious crime that compromises our national security.
