The Gauteng government said that it is closing the taps at provincial departments in a bid to clamp down on rampant corruption.
The provincial government again made the commitment on the third anniversary of the death of Babita Deokaran.
Deokaran was gunned down in 2021 after she uncovered close to a billion rand worth of suspicious payments out of Tembisa Hospital.
The government has previously been criticized for dragging its feet on the investigations.
However, a spokesperson for the Gauteng provincial government Vuyo Mhaga said that steps have been taken to strengthen procurement processes.
“But part of the issue, not just in the health department, but also broadly speaking, was to make sure that the senior management team undergoes a lifestyle audit. I can confirm now that that would have happened.”
