President Cyril Ramaphosa has confirmed that the recommendations from the state capture commission are being steadily and thoroughly implemented across the government. In his latest newsletter, Ramaphosa praised Chief Justice Raymond Zondo for his leadership of the commission as the country’s top jurist prepares for retirement. He acknowledged that Zondo’s efforts provided an invaluable service to the nation.
Ramaphosa highlighted the government’s ongoing efforts to enact laws based on the commission’s recommendations, which he believes will fundamentally transform governance. Among these is the Public Procurement Act, designed to prevent undue interference in government procurement processes. Another significant piece of legislation is the National Prosecuting Authority Amendment Act, which established the Investigating Directorate Against Corruption. Additionally, the Companies Second Amendment Act was introduced to strengthen actions against delinquent company directors or officers.
In recognizing Zondo’s contributions, Ramaphosa described the special retirement sitting as a fitting tribute to a distinguished legal career and a celebration of a jurist who has steadfastly upheld the country’s democratic constitutional order.
