ActionSA Clarifies Coalition Status Amid Conflicting Reports In Tshwane

ActionSA’s national leadership has clarified that the party remains a part of the governing coalition in Tshwane, contrary to claims by their local councillors.

Despite assertions by ActionSA’s councillors in the capital that they had exited the Democratic Alliance (DA)-led coalition and planned to support the African National Congress (ANC) in a bid to oust Tshwane Mayor Cilliers Brink, the party at a national level holds a different stance.

Following a legal challenge from Mayor Brink, the ANC has decided to temporarily retract its motion of no confidence against him.

Jackie Mathabathe, the leader of ActionSA’s caucus in Tshwane, stated the party had resolved to leave the coalition. “Our party has made a decision, our structures have made a decision. They told us to get out of the marriage with the DA. This marriage for us has been very brutal, our focus as ActionSA is nothing else but the people on the ground. We need to take services to the people on the ground. We have suffered a lot, our townships have suffered a lot,” Mathabathe explained.

However, Michael Beaumont, ActionSA’s national chairperson, indicated that the regional leader’s announcement was premature. Beaumont emphasized that ActionSA is still evaluating its partnership with the DA in Tshwane and that any final decision will be made by the party’s senate, its highest governing body.
