Tshwane Executive Mayor, Cilliers Brink, warned that a coalition government between the African National Congress (ANC) and the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) would be “terrible” for the residents of the capital city.
Brink now faces a challenging two weeks to secure his position after ActionSA, one of his coalition partners, announced plans to leave the current governing coalition in the city.
ActionSA, with its 19 councillors in Tshwane, will align with the ANC and EFF, forming a governing majority.
Although Brink stated he is not fixated on keeping his mayoral position, he emphasized the importance of preserving the current coalition to continue its positive work.
“I think that ActionSA has made a valuable contribution, and the alternative of bringing the ANC and the EFF, with ActionSA as a junior partner, is a terrible prospect for the people of Tshwane. ActionSA would not benefit from that arrangement,” said Brink.
