Rwandan President Paul Kagame has dismissed several senior military officers in the latest purge of the country’s armed forces. The dismissed officers include Major General Martin Nzaramba, Colonel Dr. Etienne Uwimana, and 19 other officers. According to a spokesperson for the Rwanda Defense Forces, Maj-Gen Nzaramba was removed for corruption and mismanagement of funds during his tenure at the Nasho Military Training Institute, while Col Dr. Uwimana was dismissed for violating the military code of conduct. Additionally, Kagame authorized the dismissal of 195 military personnel of various ranks for violating military regulations, including engaging in corrupt practices. The Rwandan Defense Forces (RDF) have a history of taking a tough stance on misconduct, with previous dismissals of high-ranking officers for offenses such as excessive alcohol consumption and insubordination. This particular crackdown follows a meeting between Kagame and top military officials, where they discussed national security priorities, although details were not disclosed.
