A young couple’s moment of affection turned sour when an elderly man confronted and assaulted them for kissing in a park.
The pair were enjoying each other’s company at a park in Tongaat, when the elderly man, walking with two children, approached them and questioned their behaviour.
The situation quickly escalated into an argument, and according to a statement from Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA), “the man assaulted the male complainant with a clenched fist.” When the woman intervened, she was also struck, receiving a slap from the man.
The incident continued as the man punched the young man twice more before leaving the scene, prompted by his children crying. The suspect was last seen driving away in a red VW Golf, though no registration number was noted.
The male victim sustained a facial wound, but no criminal case of assault has been registered at this stage.
RUSA confirmed that the complainant reached out for advice following the altercation. Further details are awaited on whether any legal action will be taken against the elderly man.
