A fire at an airshow in Bethlehem, Free State at the weekend, has resulted in the damage of close to 20 cars and the injury of one person.
Police spokesperson Captain Loraine Earle has confirmed that 19 cars were burnt following a fire at an airshow in Bethlehem.
Of the 19 cars that damaged by the fire, eight cars were totally burnt. The total value of the damage to the vehicles is R3 million.
According to Arrive Alive, luxury cars like Audi and Mercedes Benz were caught in the blaze.
Earle also confirmed that one man was injured in the incident as he tried to move his car. The man whose age is unknown is being treated at a local hospital.
The fire which took place in the parking area of the airshow is still being investigated by the police.
Earle said: “The fire is still being investigated by there will be no speculation about the cause of the fire.”
According to the Dihlabeng Municipality, the Bethlehem airshow is an annual event that has been organised since 1999.
In a Facebook post, the Dihlabeng Municipality said that objective of the airshow revolves around the local community being active in the development of through different forms of participation, promoting social cohesion and build capabilities in introducing aviation careers to learners.
The Bethlehem airshow was opened by the Free State MEC for Finance, Economic Development and Tourism Toto Makume with Executive Mayor of Dihlabeng Local Municipality Tseki Tseki also in attendance.
