In Tshwane, ActionSA has missed the deadline set by its coalition partners to confirm its commitment to the governing alliance. The Democratic Alliance (DA)-led coalition had given ActionSA until midnight Sunday to decide whether to stay or withdraw from the partnership.
Despite this ultimatum, ActionSA has not made a definitive decision. Instead, the party has indicated it is still reviewing its position, which leaves the coalition in limbo. This delay has intensified the ongoing friction between ActionSA and its coalition partners, which includes the DA, Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP), African Christian Democratic Party (ACDP), and the Freedom Front (FF) Plus.
Joint caucus chairperson and DA councillor Jacqui Uys expressed frustration, stating that ActionSA’s communication amounted to an open-ended notice period. “We were informed via the media that ActionSA intends to leave the coalition. The remaining parties will need to meet to determine our next steps,” Uys said.
This dispute arises just two weeks before the council is set to vote on a motion of no confidence against Mayor Cilliers Brink, sponsored by the African National Congress (ANC). The outcome of this vote could further impact the stability of the coalition.
