3 people sentenced to 6 years imprisonment each for Eskom infrastructure theft


Three people have been sentenced to 6 years of imprisonment each for the theft of Eskom infrastructure.

The Roodepoort Magistrates Court found two men and a woman guilty of the theft of pylon towers in Braamfischer, Soweto, in 2021.

The trio was arrested after police received a tip-off from community members while they were painting the towers to camouflage and sell them.

Eskom’s Gauteng spokesperson, Amanda Qithi, said: “Each convict received a four-year imprisonment sentence, with an additional four years suspended for five years, for tampering with essential Eskom infrastructure and malicious damage to property. They were also sentenced to two years imprisonment, with three years suspended for five years, for the theft of the Eskom towers…”
