The United Nations Security Council has extended sanctions on Sudan until September 2025 to curb the flow of arms into Darfur, as well as target individuals and entities involved in destabilizing the country. The sanctions include asset freezes, travel bans, and an arms embargo, which were last renewed in March 2023. The resolution aims to help end Sudan’s ongoing conflict, mitigate the humanitarian crisis, and restore stability. Meanwhile, Sudan and the United Arab Emirates continue to trade words over the ongoing conflict. Sudan’s representative, Al-Harith Idriss al-Harith Mohamed, accused the UAE of supporting militias committing war crimes in Darfur. In response, the UAE’s representative, Mohamed Abushahab, dismissed the claims as false and an attempt to shift blame from the Sudanese Armed Forces.
