Wicknell Chivayo’s Generous Offer
Wicknell Chivayo, known for his philanthropic gestures, took to his X account to share his response to Ncube’s appeal.
In his post, Chivayo expressed his sympathy for Ncube’s plight, acknowledging his former status as a beloved radio personality and the severe challenges he now faces.
“DRIVEN BY LOVE AND SYMPATHY…my attention has been drawn to a heartfelt plea after watching this heartbreaking video from Simon “Pashoma” Ncube, a former ZBC RADIO DJ who served our NATIONAL BROADCASTER with passion and dedication for many years.”
Chivayo recalled the days when Ncube was a household name on Radio 2 (now Radio Zimbabwe), and the devastation he felt seeing the radio legend living in such deplorable dire circumstances. Chivayo also pointed out that Ncube had not received his pension due to economic challenges faced by the country, including the impact of international sanctions on Zimbabwe.
“I remember when I was young PASHOMA NCUBE was a HOUSEHOLD NAME on Radio 2 (now Radio Zimbabwe), and many of us grew up listening to him. To now see him living in DESPAIR, without the PENSION he rightfully earned, is both painful and DEPLORABLE. The video, showing him on CRUTCHES and in visibly difficult conditions, left me deeply moved. It is devastating to witness someone who was once an ICON of Zimbabwean radio now struggling in such destitute circumstances.”
Chivayo’s Support Comes with a Message of Unity and Empowerment
In his message, Chivayo emphasized the importance of the vision set forth by President Emmerson Mnangagwa, especially regarding the land reform program. He praised Ncube for acknowledging the president’s efforts to empower Zimbabweans through the initiative.
Chivayo also highlighted their shared roots in Chikomba West, Chivhu, and expressed how this connection made his decision to assist Ncube even more significant.
He generously offered Simon Ncube US$20,000 cash and a single cab truck vehicle valued at US$15,000.
“To assist you, on Monday next week please go and see my lawyer, MR. SIKHUMBUZO MPOFU of MUNANGATE AND ASSOCIATES in Harare, who will give you USD20,000 in CASH. He will also take you to ENTERPRISE CAR SALE, where MADZIBABA CHIPAGA will let you choose a SINGLE CAB truck valued at no more than USD15,000 to support your farming activities and improve your mobility. Please ensure whoever is going to be your driver has a valid LICENSE and can assist you in driving back to Chikomba safely.”
Chivayo advised Ncube to use the funds wisely, and invest in farming as he stated that he would not able to assist him again. He told him to buy cattle, farming equipment, fertilizers, and seeds to make the most of the land he got through the government’s land reform program. He also said that he gifted him truck to assist him with farming activities and to move around.
“However, please use the resources WISELY, as I will not be able to assist you any further. Tengai Mombe dzeku rimisa ne ma farm implements ne FERTILIZER ne mbeu and everything necessary for you to use the LAND given to you by the GOVERNMENT productively. I hope to see a video in the NEAR future, showing how you have transformed your farm.”
In his concluding remarks, Chivayo urged Ncube to be productive with the resources he had been given, in line with the vision of a better Zimbabwe.
He emphasized the need for unity and empowerment to ensure the success of individuals and communities, which he believes is essential for the country’s growth
