The operation, conducted by law enforcement on Gutenberg Street, began on Friday night and extended into the early hours of Saturday morning, signaling a firm stance against illegal immigration and employment practices.

In addition to the arrests of the undocumented individuals, authorities detained two warehouse owners who now face charges of contravening the Immigration Act.

On the 1st of March 2024, ActionSA led a march to the Department of Labour in Newcastle, demanding immediate action and inspections of factories in the Mabhodini area.”

Zuma emphasized that ActionSA’s investigations revealed many businesses prioritized employing undocumented foreigners over local South Africans. This practice, she noted, undermines opportunities for local residents, particularly the youth, in a region grappling with high unemployment rates.
