What Happened?
Mpilo Matutu alleged that he enjoyed booze with Mellisa Katiyo, 22, of Belvedere, and Makanaka Mukundwa, 20, of Waterfalls, at the Hippodrome. Mpilo then suggested they go to another Harare bar, and they headed to his blue BMW.
While waiting in the car, Mpilo sent someone to fetch more alcohol. Frustrated by the delay, he left the baddies in the vehicle to look for the delivery person. When he returned, Mellisa and Makanaka were gone—and so was the cash he had kept in the dashboard.
Mpilo immediately reported the theft to the police. Acting on a tip-off, officers tracked the girls to Belvedere and arrested them.
Harare provincial police spokesperson Inspector Luckmore Chakanza confirmed the incident.
“Police arrested two women in connection with theft. The two were reported to have stolen cash amounting to US$4500 in a parked car. The suspects were arrested in Belvedere following a tip-off,” said Insp Chakanza.
