EFF To March On Constitutional Court Over Phala Phala Scandal

Supporters of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) are set to take to the streets of Johannesburg on Tuesday as the Constitutional Court prepares to hear the party’s case on the controversial Phala Phala saga.

The march is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. at Mary Fitzgerald Square in Newtown and will proceed to the Constitutional Court in Braamfontein. Motorists are advised to avoid the Johannesburg inner city and use alternative routes during the demonstration.

The EFF, along with the African Transformation Movement (ATM), will argue that Parliament’s decision to reject a report on the Phala Phala incident—an alleged theft of foreign currency from President Cyril Ramaphosa’s Limpopo farm in 2020—was irrational and unlawful.

EFF leader Julius Malema has stated that the protest is aimed at holding President Ramaphosa accountable for alleged corruption linked to the incident.

“We are marching there to highlight the corruption of President Cyril Ramaphosa and the ANC,” Malema said. “We will never stop exposing how corrupt the ANC is and its leaders, including Ramaphosa.”

The EFF also plans to challenge the parliamentary rules regarding independent panel reports, calling for them to be declared invalid and unconstitutional.

President Ramaphosa is expected to defend the application, asserting that the report in question is substantially flawed and lacks evidence to support allegations of serious misconduct.

The case is expected to draw significant attention as it touches on issues of accountability, transparency, and the limits of parliamentary oversight in South Africa.
