By Dorrothy Moyo | A disturbing incident involving Chinhoyi Municipality police officers who allegedly assaulted a civilian over a $2 fine has caused a stir The case has sparked widespread outrage, with calls for accountability and justice for the victim of the alleged excessive use of force.
The incident occurred after a man reportedly failed to pay a $2 fine imposed by the municipal police. A video of the altercation, submitted as evidence, shows 2 officers pinning the man to the ground while one strikes him before tipping him to the ground. The footage has raised concerns over abuse of power and excessive force by law enforcement officers.

Human rights organizations in Zimbabwe have also weighed in, urging the judiciary to set a precedent against such acts of violence by public officials. “The victim’s rights were clearly violated. The excessive force displayed in this incident is unacceptable and must not go unpunished,” one rights activist said.
