Burial…

By Dr Masimba Mavaza | On December 6, 2024 the Pathfinder and Adventist family, Brooke Weston High School and Corby community bid an emotional farewell to Princess Tiffany. Tiffany Maibongwe Wilson Moyo has been laid to rest amid huge outpouring of grief. The funeral was full of raw emotion with the whole Pathfinders grieving. Tears were flowing without control as the usually quiet town of Corby was united in grief.

The rawness of the emotion that filled the corby sent shivers down the spines of everyone there, especially when the heavy pain was forced down everyone’s spine and a wave of applause swept in from the vast crowds gathered at St Ninians Church with people inside and outside on hearing Thulani Moyo father of Tiffany Moyo deliver his incendiary eulogy filled with agony grief and pain. As he cracked under the pressure of emotions tears flowing down his cheeks Mr Moyo who is an elder in the Seventh Day Adventist Church and a dedicated Pathfinder leader said in between sobs” No father is supposed to go through what I am going through.

No Parent is supposed to burry his own child.” Mr Moyo continued and expressed his dream that one day when the trumpet will sound and the dead in Christ will rise. On that day Tiffany will rise and God willing she will give a hug to her daddy and mother and all family members. What a day that will be.”

Supported by his brother Nicholas Moyo and family Thulani struggled to finish his speech but managed to make the whole church shed tears.
Memories of this unforgettable day will remain very vivid in the minds of Corby residents. For me, as for many others, the moment when we heard she had died was the equivalent to a knife being thrust in the chest.

Tiffany’s tragic death was so emotional and nothing hit me like that in my whole life.

Tiffany was a young life blown away so soon. I have never experienced such an emotionally-charged atmosphere as Pastor Maurede consoled the mourners with touching biblical comfort. Pastor Maurede reminded the mourners that God’s Grace cannot be measured by one incident of grief. God can not be judges by a tragic event. The whole life story needs to be understood. Pastor Maurede told a photograph does not tell the whole story. It only tells you a story of that moment. So when hard times come they do not define God. He reminded the mourners that a Day is coming when Christ will come again and the dead will be risen and they will be with Christ dor ever in a place where there is no death where there is no pain and Christ himself will be the light. What a great day?? God will wipe away all tears and even your tears will be wiped away.

Over two thousand mourners attended the burial which was officiated by the Pathfinders of the North England Conference of the Seventh Day Adventist.
Disbelief that she was dead aged only 17 leaving a distraught family and neighbourhood behind, hung in the air as the mourners filed in, many having needed to endure the crowds jamming the streets of Corby.

Television cameras were allowed in filming the process.

From any angle of Corby one could see the grief etched on the faces, of the family members and how the mother and daddy and the Grandfather Mr Nyathi and Mrs Nyathi the maternal grandparents bowed their heads and wept and the agony of Thandi Moyo. And above all, the tears coursing down the faces of the siblings which broke the hearts of all who witnessed them.

The grief of the Moyo and Nyathi families including the former mayor of Corby His Worship Mr Tafadzwa Chikoto made the day truly extraordinarily difficult and painful.
A swirl of emotions – disbelief, incomprehension and then anger – swept the town followed by a mass outpouring of grief.
The testimonies from Brook Weston Principal and staff members set the people weeping in their seats sand the anguished cries that greeted the passage of her funeral procession have passed into books of history, but emotions still swirl around Tiffany.

The sense that her short, ultimately tragic life was made far worse than it should have been by those who were supposed to help her has, if anything, grown more intense. You could still hear one question very loud in the air “But Why?”
Some of this has been fed by absurd conspiracy theories surrounding her death, which stubbornly refuse to accept the prosaic truth of what happened, but one day God will reveal to all of us what really happened.

But beyond the grief and pain, the funeral was a reminder that Tiffany exerted massive influence on those she met.

Memories of Tiffany the world knew all too briefly remain precious beyond words to all.

But then, as we move on, her influence on the way all the people go about their duties is profound and may be Tiffany’s most lasting legacy for a life shortly lived.

Tiffany’s lasting impact would be on those who had encountered her in her short life. Tiffany’s impact on people turns out to be a force for good, which makes her loss all the more tragic.
