Kademaunga Denies Knowledge of Tshabangu’s Appointment
By A Correspondent
Maureen Kademaunga, the Member of Parliament for Sunningdale, has denied any knowledge of her purported appointment as the new opposition leader of the house in Parliament.
“I have no knowledge of this development,” Kademaunga stated.
This response comes amid a growing controversy surrounding Sengezo Tshabangu, the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) Secretary-General, who has been making sweeping changes within the party. Tshabangu is targeting senior party members and parliamentary leaders, particularly those aligned with Welshman Ncube, in a bid to restructure the party.
In the latest reshuffle, Kademaunga has replaced Lynette Karenyi-Kore, the former Leader of the House in Parliament.
Karenyi-Kore, who was slated to assume a rotational leadership role as CCC’s president alongside Ncube, has yet to take on that responsibility, leading to speculation about tensions within the party.
Tshabangu’s shake-up also included the replacement of former Chief Whip Edwin Mushoriwa with Charles Moyo, while Sam Chapfudza takes over as Deputy Chief Whip. Several Parliamentary Portfolio Committee chairpersons were also swapped out, with new appointments that reflect Tshabangu’s broader changes in key legislative positions:
Zivai Mhetu replaced Caston Matewu as Chairperson for the Media, Information & Broadcasting Services committee.
Thokozani Khupe replaced Minenhle Ntandoyenkosi Gumede at the helm of the Higher and Tertiary Education Committee.
Senator Maxwell Mdhluri replaced Sithabisiwe Moyo as Chair of the Thematic Committee on Indigenisation.
Additionally, leadership changes were made within the Youth Caucus, with Richard Tsvangirai named Deputy Chairperson and S. Dube assuming the role of Secretary, replacing Takudzwa Ngadziore and Ropafadzo Makumire, respectively.
These moves have triggered unrest within the CCC ranks. Edwin Mushoriwa, in a WhatsApp message to fellow CCC lawmakers, confirmed his resignation as Chief Whip: “
Just to advise that my six-month stint as opposition Chief Whip has come to an end. I received communication from the Clerk of Parliament this morning.”
Factional divisions were also apparent in remarks from party spokesperson Willias Madzimure, who cast doubt on the legitimacy of the reshuffle.
He remarked, “If it was party business led by Welshman Ncube, I would know. If it was from someone else, I wouldn’t.”
Tshabangu’s actions have raised questions about the unity and legitimacy of CCC’s leadership, highlighting the ongoing tensions within the party.
