The African National Congress (ANC) in Gauteng is meeting with the party’s national leadership to address its poor performance in the 2024 general elections.
The ANC’s National Working Committee (NWC) has been tasked with identifying reasons for the sharp decline in support. While the party secured 50% of the vote in Gauteng during the 2019 elections, this year’s results plummeted to 34%.
This follows a similar assessment in KwaZulu-Natal last week, where the NWC examined factors behind the party’s waning support.
On Monday, the NWC will review a report analyzing the setbacks in Gauteng, the country’s economic hub. Recommendations will then be submitted to the ANC’s National Executive Committee (NEC), the highest decision-making body between conferences.
Potential actions include disbanding Gauteng’s provincial structure or recalling certain provincial leaders.
The NEC will convene this weekend to make a final decision on leadership changes in both Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal. The outcomes could significantly shape the ANC’s strategy for rebuilding its electoral base.
