Coup In Zanu PF Youth League – Eduzim News

By Political Reporter- The Zanu PF Youth League has been plunged into chaos as a power struggle erupted over an alleged “coup” within its top executive. 

Secretary for Youth Affairs Tinoda Machakaire unilaterally reshuffled the executive council, sparking fierce resistance from his deputy, John Paradza.

In a circular dated 09 December 2024, Machakaire announced sweeping changes to key positions, asserting the reshuffle was necessary for fulfilling the league’s constitutional obligations and implementing resolutions from the National People’s Conference.

Among the new appointees were:

1. Tsungai Makumbe – Secretary for Finance
2. Phinias Makombe – Secretary for Commissariat
3. Philippa Mukoko – Secretary for External Relations
4. Munashe Mtutsa – Secretary for Information
5. Valeria Makonza – Secretary for Legal Affairs
6. Garikai Zonde – Secretary for Science and Technology

Machakaire said these changes were effective immediately.

However, Paradza swiftly declared the move unconstitutional, advising the affected officials to ignore the reshuffle. 

In a strongly worded memo to Machakaire, Paradza cited Article 25, Section 339 of the Zanu PF Constitution, accusing him of bypassing proper procedures and disregarding the mandate of elected provincial representatives.

Paradza revealed that he had escalated the matter to the party’s Secretary General, Obert Mpofu, seeking intervention to prevent what he described as “unnecessary divisions and tensions” within the league.

He further instructed the reshuffled officials to remain in their posts pending official resolution.

The Youth League’s internal rift comes amid heightened political sensitivity in Zanu PF, raising questions about broader implications for the party’s stability ahead of key national events.
