Frustrated parents whose children have not yet been assigned to a school have complained about the poor treatment received at the Gauteng Education Department’s district office in Johannesburg.
Queues have stalled all day, with some parents who arrived as early as 7am still waiting in line.
It has been a long and frustrating day for hundreds of parents who woke up early to inquire about their children’s academic futures.
One parent, who has been waiting in line, was disappointed that after eight hours, she still hadn’t received any assistance.
“I’m an adult. I can take whatever pain I have to come across. My problem is my child having to cry tomorrow not going to school. She has even polished her shoes. She’s ready. She says ‘Mom what uniform are you going to buy me.’ I can’t even give her an answer when I get home. What am I going to tell her?”
Another parent voiced her anger.
“There’s a lot happening inside. I think people are skipping lines or some people are getting paid but there’s a lot happening here. I have been here since 7am, so its not nice.”
With schools reopening on Wednesday, their children will have to play catch up with the syllabus.
