Defending champions Dynamos through to Chibuku Super Cup quarters as FC Platinum, CAPS United crash out

Dynamos, Bikita Minerals, Manica Diamonds, and MWOS all picked up wins in the first round of the Chibuku Super Cup to progress to the quarter-finals.

Defending champions Dynamos needed a penalty shootout once again to advance, beating Simba Bhora 5-4 on spot kicks after a 1-1 draw in regulation time.

The Glamour Boys, who also beat Yadah on penalties in the preliminary round on Wednesday, secured a late equaliser through Ghanaian Felix Kwaku Hammond to cancel out Boid Mutukure’s fifth-minute opener.

The equaliser forced the match into penalties, with Dynamos converting all their kicks, while Simba saw their first effort saved.

At Ngoni Stadium, MWOS beat CAPS United 2-0 to reach their first-ever Chibuku Super Cup quarter-final. The Punters sealed the victory with second-half goals from Nigel Mutinha and Arthur Banda.

At Mandava Stadium, FC Platinum crashed out of the competition after losing 5-3 on penalties to Manica Diamonds following a goalless draw in regulation time.

Bikita Minerals booked their place in the last eight after beating TelOne 5-4 in a penalty shootout. That game had ended 1-1, with Tinaye Tsimba opening the scoring for Bikita in the fifth minute before TelOne equalised early in the second half through Frank Makarati.
