Dynamos are through to the final of the 2025 Chibuku Super Cup after edging Highlanders 5–4 on penalties in a semifinal clash at Rufaro Stadium on Sunday.
The match ended 1–1 in regulation time before the defending champions held their nerve in the shootout to book their place in the final.
Dynamos started the match brightly, dominating possession and creating the better chances in the opening minutes. Their early pressure paid off in the 15th minute when Emmanuel Jalai put them ahead with a brilliant volley.
Highlanders tried to respond but struggled to find a breakthrough. Andrew Mbeba and Never Rauzhi both had good opportunities to equalise but were denied by goalkeeper Prince Tafiremutsa, as the match went to the break with the hosts leading.
The second half began on a cautious note, with both teams taking their time to settle. Dynamos almost doubled their advantage on the hour mark when Felix Hammond’s effort rattled the crossbar, much to the relief of the Highlanders. The Bulawayo giants, however, found their rhythm and were rewarded in the 69th minute when Melikhaya Ncube slotted home the equaliser.
With both sides pushing hard for a late winner, neither could find the breakthrough, and it ended 1–1 after 90 minutes.
The game was decided by penalties, where Dynamos converted all five of their spot kicks, while Highlanders’ Prince Ndlovu missed his effort, handing Dynamos a 5–4 victory in the shootout.
The result sees the Glamour Boys advance to the Chibuku Super Cup final, where they will face Triangle United, who beat MWOS in the other semifinal.
