Lawrence Zimondi and Rumeck Edgar have been suspended from officiating in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League for the rest of the season.
The suspension follows breaches of Article 22 of the Referees’ Code of Conduct.
A statement by ZIFA reads: “The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) wishes to inform the football fraternity and the public that referees Lawrence Zimondi and Rumeck Edgar have been suspended from officiating Premier Soccer League (PSL) matches from matchday 31 to the end of the 2025 season.”
The decision comes after their poor officiating in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match between Dynamos FC and Ngezi Platinum Stars FC, played at Rufaro Stadium on 4 October 2025.
The game was marred by several controversial incidents, including Dynamos’ equaliser, which sparked a dramatic reaction from Ngezi coach Takesure Chiragwi, who slapped one of his own players.
According to the match commissioner’s report, there were incorrect decisions that materially affected the outcome of the game, and “after reviewing the matter, ZIFA determined that both officials breached Article 22 of the Referees’ Code of Conduct.”
This is the second time this season that Zimondi has been suspended for poor officiating. His first suspension came in May, when he was banned for four weeks.
