Algeria coach Vladimir Petković has outlined how his team benefited from their friendly match against Zimbabwe.
The Fennecs faced the Warriors on Thursday evening and secured a 3–1 victory.
Speaking after the match, Petković said the encounter allowed his side to test new players and served several useful purposes.
“This match was very useful for us in several ways,” said the coach, as quoted by DZFoot website. “We were able to try out new players and give playing time to those who hadn’t had many opportunities before. The idea was to see how they could fit into our style of play and the principles we’re trying to implement.”
Petković believes his side could have scored more goals after dominating large parts of the game.
“We played the game we needed to and could have scored more goals,” he added.
“We maintained a good rhythm overall, despite the numerous substitutions. I am satisfied with the level shown and, above all, with the adherence to our principles, even after the tactical adjustments.”
Algeria scored all three goals in the first half through Baghdad Bounedjah, Mohamed Amoura and Jaouen Hadjam, while Zimbabwe pulled one back in the 86th minute from the penalty spot through Tawanda Chirewa.
