The Premier Soccer League (PSL) has delivered its judgement on Ngezi Platinum Stars head coach Takesure Chiragwi, who slapped his own player during a league match against Dynamos in October.
The incident occurred on the touchline when Chiragwi struck forward McDonald Makuwe in a heated exchange moments after Dynamos equalised in the 34th minute through an own goal by Brooklyn Katumba.
Chiragwi has been fined US$4,000 for his conduct, while Ngezi Platinum Stars have been handed a US$5,000 fine after the club was found guilty of disrupting the normal proceedings of the match and exhibiting improper behaviour through both players and technical staff.
The PSL stated: “Head Coach Takesure Chiragwi pleaded guilty to charges of violent and disorderly conduct and improper behaviour likely to bring the League into disrepute. He was fined US$4,000, of which US$1,000 was suspended on condition that he attends anger management lessons with an organisation approved by the PSL.”
In delivering its ruling, the PSL Disciplinary Committee said it “took cognisance of the coach’s public apology to the player, the League and all stakeholders.”
The Committee also noted “his accountability, remorse, the internal disciplinary measures promptly taken by his club, and his suspension from official duties.”
Meanwhile, Ngezi Platinum Stars defender Kudzai Chigwida was found guilty of ungentlemanly conduct and making improper utterances towards a match official. He was fined US$100.
