Warriors captain Marvelous Nakamba has explained the significance of the national team’s 2-1 victory over Qatar in a friendly match on Monday evening.
The win ended Zimbabwe’s year-long run without a victory across all competitions and marked coach Marian Marinica’s first triumph, just over a week after his appointment.
The Warriors’ goals came from Munashe Garan’anga and Bill Antonio in either half, while Qatar’s only goal was scored by Mohamed Khaled Gouda in the 9th minute.
Posting on his Instagram account, Nakamba said: “The victory against Qatar brings confidence and renewed zeal within the squad, especially with just a few weeks left before the prestigious AFCON tournament.
“As players, we always play with our hearts out, I believe with your support, and if we all pull in one direction, we will get it right.
“This is the moment we need your support the most.”
The Warriors captain also expressed gratitude to fans and stakeholders who backed the team during their two friendly matches in the Middle East, saying:
“A big thank you to Zimbabweans who were rallying behind us back from home, all over the world and those in Qatar, Saudi Arabia who came out in numbers to support us during the international friendly matches. Without you, we feel incomplete.”
