Black Rhinos Queens FC cry foul over poor officiating

Black Rhinos Queens FC have filed an official complaint with the Zimbabwe Women’s Premier Soccer League over the performance by match officials during their final match of the season against Herentals Queens on Saturday.

The match which ended 2-all was played at Gwanzura Stadium.

The 2025 season came to an end over the weekend with Herentals being crowned champions for the fourth consecutive season.

However, Rhinos has stopped short of publicly criticising centre referee Anna Mutanga whom they believe made calls that were decisive in shaping the outcome of the match.

“We write to formally register our concern regarding the quality of officiating during the Match Day 30 fixture between Herentals Queens and Black Rhinos Queens FC played at Gwanzura Stadium.

“The performance of the centre referee, Ms. Anna Mutanga, was below the expected standard, with several inconsistent and incorrect decisions that materially affected the integrity and outcome of the match,” reads part of the letter.

In their complaint letter,  the army-side says there were  a series of controversial moments, including a 39th-minute handball incident inside the Herentals penalty area that went unpunished, as well as what they insist was a clear 85th-minute foul on  their captain in the box that failed to result in a penalty.

Rhinos also accused Herentals’ goalkeeping Cynthia Shonga of repeated and deliberate time-wasting between the 65th and 90th minute.

“Repeated time-wasting by the Herentals Queens goalkeeper-on more than six occasions between the 65th and 90th minute-without any warning or disciplinary action taken,” the club said before adding that;

“As a committed and passionate football institution, we expect the highest standards of officiating in all Premier Soccer League fixtures.

“We respectfully request that the relevant authorities review the match footage and take the necessary corrective and disciplinary measures to safeguard the integrity of the competition. We trust that this matter will receive your urgent and fair attention,”

The ZWPSL is yet to comment on the matter.
