Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has made a bold claim regarding his team’s preparations ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The tournament starts on Sunday, 21 December, with South Africa drawn in Group B alongside Zimbabwe, Angola and Egypt.
Speaking ahead of the competition, Broos declared that his side is slightly ahead in their preparations compared to other teams.
“We are already quite far in our preparation, and the finishing touches will come towards the end of the week,” said Broos, as quoted by OFM South Africa.
“We can’t complain when you see teams like Cameroon, Morocco and Senegal only really starting now because their players were not released by their clubs.
“We’ve already had a full week of training, and even though there are four players we can’t count on, I will never use that as an excuse if we don’t perform at AFCON.”
Bafana Bafana open their campaign against Angola on Monday, 22 December, before taking on Egypt on 26 December and concluding the group stage against Zimbabwe three days later.
