Reigning Premier Soccer League Referee of the Year Brighton Chimene is set to make his first appearance at the Africa Cup of Nations on Tuesday when Mali take on Zambia in a Group A encounter.

Chimene, who is the only Zimbabwean referee at the continental showpiece, has been appointed as one of the Video Assistant Referees (V.A.R.) for the fixture, marking a significant milestone in his officiating career.

The highly-rated official was selected by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to be part of the AFCON match officials panel following his consistent performances on the domestic and international stage. This will be his first time to officiate at AFCON.

Chimene has previously handled high-profile matches in CAF interclub tournaments, including the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup.
