Zimbabwe kept their knockout-stage hopes alive with a hard-fought 1–1 draw against Angola in their second Group B match on Friday.

After losing to Egypt in their opener, the Warriors started brightly and almost struck inside the first minute when Antonio rattled the crossbar. However, Angola gradually took control of the tempo and were rewarded in the 24th minute as Gelson Dala broke through to slot home the opening goal. Angola continued to threaten, forcing several saves from Washington Arubi, while Zimbabwe were also dealt a blow when captain Teenage Hadebe was forced off injured.

Just as it looked like the Warriors would head into the break trailing, they found a crucial equaliser deep into first-half stoppage time. Antonio squared the ball to Knowledge Musona, whose excellent first touch set him up to calmly find the far corner and level the scores.

The second half was more balanced, with both sides creating chances. Musona, Prince Dube and substitute Tawanda Chirewa tested the Angolan defence, while Arubi produced a series of important saves to keep Zimbabwe in the contest. Fabisch also narrowly missed the target with his two late strikes.

In the end, the match finished level, a result that gave both Zimbabwe and Angola their first point at the tournament.
