Highlanders benefactor Wicknell Chivayo is reportedly no longer taking calls from the club’s executive leadership, sparking fresh uncertainty over Bosso’s financial future ahead of the new season.
The apparent fallout follows Highlanders’ rejection of Chivayo’s proposal to appoint former club captain and Warriors legend Benjani Mwaruwari as head coach.
Instead, the Bulawayo giants offered Mwaruwari the role of technical director, while South African coach Thabo Senong was installed as head coach.
Chivayo’s perceived withdrawal from active communication has now raised alarm bells within the club, with growing fears that Bosso could be plunged into serious financial difficulties if the standoff is not resolved.
The businessman pledged a US$1 million sponsorship deal last year and has since disbursed US$500,000 to help the club meet operational costs, including player welfare and administrative expenses.
With preparations for the upcoming campaign already underway, Highlanders may be forced to either seek an alternative sponsor at short notice or reconsider Chivayo’s preferred option of installing Mwaruwari as head coach in order to restore relations and secure continued financial support.
