English Championship side Blackburn Rovers have made a $2 million (£1.5 million) offer to sign Warriors striker Tawanda Maswanhise.

The 23-year-old has been in red-hot form this season and is currently leading the scoring charts in the Scottish Premiership.

Maswanhise was on target on Saturday, scoring a brace in Motherwell’s 2-0 win over Livingston. The goals extended his scoring run to five consecutive matches, taking his tally to 13 league goals and 18 across all competitions.

His performances have attracted interest from several clubs, including Scottish giants Rangers and Celtic, as well as Leicester City and Blackburn Rovers.

According to a report by The 72 website, Rovers are making a late move for the Zimbabwe international as they look to strengthen their squad. They are willing to offer up to $2 million (£1.5 million) for Maswanhise, who is under contract with Motherwell until 2027, with an option to extend.

Meanwhile, Motherwell coach Jens Berthel Askou has admitted that Maswanhise is for sale – just not this month.

Speaking after the victory over Livingston, Askou said:

“I never said he wasn’t for sale, but I said we don’t have a plan to sell him now. That’s the plan we are following.

“Eventually, he is for sale; it’s just not now. He is adding value and he would love to be the Premiership’s top scorer.

“The best opportunity for him to do that is by staying with us until the summer, and then we will see what happens.”
