Three trucks collide on N3
Three people were injured when a chain-reaction collision involving three heavy-duty trucks brought traffic to a standstill on the N3 near Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal, on the morning of 16 February 2026.
ALS Paramedics arrived at the scene to assist the victims, including a truck driver who became trapped in the wreckage.
“The fire department is currently working to free one of the drivers stuck in the collision,” authorities said.
Two other individuals sustained moderate injuries and were treated on-site before being transported to hospital.
Traffic was temporarily diverted onto the R103 at Lion Park as emergency services worked to clear the scene.
Local residents expressed concern, noting that this stretch of the N3 has become increasingly prone to serious accidents.
The incident underscores ongoing safety challenges along the busy highway, as authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash.
