The Zimbabwe Women’s Premier Soccer League (ZWPSL) yesterday hosted a successful Annual General Meeting (AGM) at ZIFA Village.
The AGM deliberated on key matters affecting the administration and future direction of the league ahead of the 2026 season.
The meeting also focused largely on strengthening professionalism through mandatory club licensing, which members identified as the foundation for building a sustainable and compliant league structure.
The league’s chairperson, Chido Chizondo, said the deliberations were productive and comprehensive.
“It was mostly speaking to alignment with professionalism for sustainable growth. Most of the issues discussed were centered around the need for forging a thriving league built on a club licensing foundation,” she said.
“Key to the discussions was the intensity and clarity in the deliberations and the clubs’ level of engagement, cooperation, and comprehension, especially with regard to club licensing, as most issues were revolving around that.”
Chizondo confirmed that all agenda items were addressed.
“The six hours were really worth it. I am glad we exhausted all the items, including the additions,” she said.
Among the key resolutions adopted were budget approval, ratification of Ad Hoc Committees, endorsement of the 2026–2031 Strategic Plan, confirmation of monthly awards, and the admission of Kwekwe Queens FC into the top flight. The issue of medical insurance for players will also be pursued.
“We have made applications to the Association through the FIFA Forward in the hope that we can cushion the clubs’ operational expenses, which include referees’ fees, ambulance services, ground hire, and security fees,” she added.
While no structural changes were approved, Chizondo described the adoption of the 2026–2031 Strategic Plan as a crucial milestone.
“Not changes as such, but the key was the approval of the 2026–2031 Strategic Plan, which is a really integral component for the development pathway of the League to thrive,” she said.
She urged unity and compliance as the league prepares for the new season. Which is expected to start in April.
“The level of engagement and unity of purpose exhibited during the AGM should be vital for our progression as a league. I want to urge clubs to put their best foot forward in aligning with the mandatory club licensing requirements, as it is the launchpad for our growth. With all hands on deck, 2026 should be an amazing year for the girl child.”
