Former Tsvangirai Aide Receives Death Threats Over Opposing Constitutional Amendment Bill
Tinashe Sambiri – Jameson Timba, a former aide to the late MDC founding president Morgan Tsvangirai, has reportedly received threatening symbols on his gate.
Timba is a leading figure opposing constitutional amendments that could extend President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s term to 2030.
The markings are believed to be intended to intimidate him because of his political stance.
An observer who monitors political activism in Zimbabwe said the threats reflect a worrying trend of intimidation against members of the Defend the Constitution Platform (DCP).
“Targeting activists in this manner undermines democratic engagement and creates a climate of fear among those advocating for constitutional safeguards,” the observer said.
Civil society groups have expressed concern over the incidents, warning that such tactics could escalate political tensions in the country.
