The Northern Region Soccer League has announced the postponement of the 2026 Division One season following the cancellation of Match Day One fixtures due to a shortage of match officials.
In a statement released on Friday, the league confirmed that the decision was prompted by late communication from the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) regarding the non-availability of referees.
“The Northern Region Soccer League regrets to announce the cancellation of Match Day One fixtures and the postponement of our 2026 league program. Due to circumstances beyond our control, ZIFA’s late notice on the non-availability of match officials has forced us to reschedule,” read part of the statement.
The league had initially planned to kick off the new campaign on 28 February 2026 after submitting its roadmap to ZIFA in January.
According to the statement, the organisers were expecting the requisite training workshop for elite referees and match commissioners to be conducted in time to facilitate a smooth start to the season.
However, the delay in the availability of match officials has disrupted those plans, leaving clubs and stakeholders in limbo just days before the scheduled start.
